Beautifying Your Abode

Selecting Wall Decors

Picking wall ornaments is never a simple matter. If you are to make the most out of these decorative items, you should avoid buying at random. On the contrary consider your preferred decor style and existing interior design.

Before you set out to your favourite home decor depot, determine where you need to place the wall decors. Understand that the living room is the first noticeable place inside your home, the kitchen second. You might want to consider accentuating the walls in these spaces.

When selecting wall decors, choose those that perfectly fits the style of the room where you are going to mount them. The wall decor should promote a continuation of the room's style, not create a new one. For instance, a contemporary wall decor would likely look awkward in a country-styled kitchen.

Now, do not confine yourself to the basic wall decors (e.g. paintings and collages). Consider items that are both ornamental and functional such as sconces and shelves. There are highly practical pieces to choose from, all you need is a keen eye when you shop. In addition, you can experiment or create your own wall decors. You can place large decorative containers on shelves or clear cupboards. They are beautiful in themselves, yet they offer good storage for pasta and other kitchen supplies. You may also mount a small corkboard on the wall where you tack on important papers like children's artwork, monthly bills, to-do reminders, and even herbal potpourris in mesh bags or envelopes. Use colourful pins and adorn the sides of the board with beautiful cut-outs. Not only will the corkboard serve as a useful board of reminders, it will also act as a wall of art and expression for the entire family.
